SRO Productions was started in 1984 to address the need for Community Theater in the Broome County area. Pooling the talents and financial resources of the community, the company was able to produce its first musical, GODSPELL.

Since that first performance in the summer of 1984, SRO Productions III has produced a number of quality musicals and dramas including; ANNIE, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, JESUS CHRSIT SUPER STAR, PIPPIN, OLYMPUS ON MY MIND, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, CABARET, THE FANTASTICKS, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, OLIVER, THE NEW ODD COUPLE, NUNSENSE, INTO THE WOODS, GUYS AND DOLLS, ASSASSINS, GYPSY, AND THE WORLD GOES ‘ROUND, NUNSENSE II, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, SOMETHING AFOOT, A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING, FOREVER PLAID, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, MONKY BUSINESS, THE PAJAMA GAME, PUTTING IT TOGETHER, YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, NUNCRACKERS, SECRET GARDEN, SEUSSICAL, SWEET CHARITY, JEKYLL & HYDE, ALL SHOOK UP AND LITTLE WOMEN. Most recently, the company has mounted well received productions of shows as varied as YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW and ONCE ON THIS ISLAND.

In addition, SRO has also sponsored acting workshops, as well as technical workshops for those community people interested in the backstage workings of a theatrical production. SRO Productions III joined forces with the Discovery Center in the summer of 1992 to begin a theater and playwriting program for children. This program has proven quite rewarding and tremendously successful.

Throughout the last decade, SRO has worked with a variety of community groups providing the pooling of talents and resources with groups such as The Dance Connection, Jan DeAngelo and Company, Tongue ‘n Cheek Ltd. Etc. SRO has taken several shows on tour to outlying areas including New Milford, PA and New Berlin, NY. They have performed at local venues such as The Binghamton Club, The Binghamton Country Club, Schoor Family Firehouse Stage and have returned for additional performances on several occasions. SRO was a regular at First Night Binghamton.

Our History....                  .... and Our Mission

One of SRO’s goals for the coming years includes seeking a new, more permanent performance space. SRO would like to remain Binghamton based offering theater in the heart of the city. This would not only bring an enrichment of theater to the region but also it would benefit local business with increased patronage. A dedicated space would allow the development of additional shows and more variety in our offerings.

With six people in our original company, membership in SRO is now more than one hundred; SRO is open to any community resident interested in writing, performing or working on theatrical production. Prio theatrical experience has never been a requirement in and of the company’s programs, and newcomers are always encouraged.
