Mike Meaney

Full given name: Michael Edmond Meaney, but please don’t ever call me Michael I’m a Mike not a Michael

Where you were born/raised: Johnson City born and raised.

Zodiac Sign: Aquarius (I don’t see any other zodiac signs with a hit song!)

First Broadway show you ever saw? The Producers, over 10 years ago and it’s the only show I’ve seen on Broadway.

When did you first get involved in theatre? My mom signed me up for acting classes at the Cider Mill when I was 7 and then the next year I did Peter Pan and got to be a pirate and I’ve been doing shows ever since.

When did you first start performing with SRO? I first auditioned for Godspell with SRO 4 years ago and the show had to be cancelled because it was going to brought back on Broadway (which funny enough that show got cancelled too) so then a few months later I joined them for their Valentine’s Day Cabaret and they haven’t been able to get rid of me since.

If you had to pick which show would you say has been your favorite you've done with SRO? I think that would have to be All Shook Up. I joined the show less than two weeks before it was going to open so I learned the whole show very quickly and was shoved into the deep end and told to swim. But it was such a blast and joining the show lead me to doing the random public relations things I do for them now. Honorable mention goes to the 2009 Valentine’s Day Cabaret because there I made new friends and became reacquainted with old ones who have since become my support system over the years.

If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? There is a bunch, but mostly these 3 Opening Night of Hair Opening Night of The Cradle Will Rock The Golden Apple

Some favorite modern musicals: Hair, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, bare: A Pop Opera, Passing Strange, Bat Boy, Urinetown, Sweet Smell of Success, Floyd Collins.

Some favorite classic musicals: Finian’s Rainbow, The Golden Apple, The Boys From Syracuse, Fiorello!, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Juno, 110 in the Shade, 1776, Wonderful Town

Favorite showtune(s) of all time: A Weekend in the Country from A Little Night Music, The Riddle Song from Floyd Collins, Finishing The Hat from Sunday in the Park with George, Paris Through the Window from A Class Act. If you’ve never listened to any of these do it now!

First stage kiss: That honor goes to Jess Brookes in SRO’s recent production of Little Women

Something you're REALLY bad at: Nothing I’m awesome… No I’m really bad at showing discretion. If I have the opportunity to make a witty comment I will make it regardless of the situation. I’m also really bad at not swearing. I’m a bit of a potty mouth.

Most visited websites: Facebook, Huffington Post, YouTube, Playbill, and Twitter

Last book you read: I just got done reading two books. Maggie Cassidy by Jack Kerouac and I reread From Assassins to West Side Story by Scott Miller; he does a chapter on Godspell in it and after I was done with that I ended up reading the whole thing (for probably the third time).

Must see TV shows: Mad Men, The Newsroom, How I Met Your Mother, Archer, Family Guy, Dexter

Last good movie you saw? Liberal Arts

Some films you consider classics: The Graduate, Some Like it Hot, Forrest Gump, Blazing Saddles, Hook, Little Rascals, Annie Hall, and any of the first 7 Marx Brothers movies (The Cocoanuts – A Day at the Races they are some of the funniest movies ever)

Do you have Pre-show rituals or warm-ups? I have recently taken it upon myself to become the dressing room DJ so I have a playlist going and I kick out the jams before each show. Lots of 90’s pop music and Disney.

Pop culture guilty pleasure: Teen Mom 2; I love me some Jenelle, and I’m also constantly on Twitter

What song is the most played on your iPod? There is a 4 way tie. These songs have all been played 9 times Sampson by Regina Spektor I and Love and You by The Avett Brothers Meadowlark from The Baker’s Wife Jock Jams Megamix In case you couldn’t tell my taste in music is a little all over the place haha

Three things you can't live without: Laughter, friends, music

What are some of your dream roles? I have shows that I would love to do more than roles I would love to do: 1776, Sunday in the Park with George, bare: A Pop Opera, Into the Woods, Finian’s Rainbow, Kiss of the Spider Woman, 110 in the Shade are all shows I’d love to be a part of.

What are some shows you'd love to see SRO to do? Pretty much any show I have mentioned in this haha, but especially Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,Bat Boy, The Full Monty, Grand Hotel, Merrily We Roll Along, She Loves Me. Just to list a few haha. I think it would be really cool for them to do something that isn’t performed frequently or ever in this area.
